Amsterdam. Fish, Fisher, Fishest: PESCA

The Rozengracht in Amsterdam is one of my favourite streets in Amsterdam. It connects the busy city centre canal-belt with the local cafes and restaurants in Oud-West. The Rozengracht itself is a fun mix of interior shops, boutiques and restaurants. A fairly new addition is ‘Pesca‘, meaning fish. Obviously you don’t go here for a juicy steak but for fish, fish and fish. This ‘Theatre of Fish’ asks an active participation of you – as the guest you chose your own fish at the marketplace and continue to select a pairing wine to sit down at your table with a beeper. If the beeper goes off, you can collect your fish at the kitchen. Not your standard restaurant, which is what makes it so much fun!

We ended up ordering Spiering, Tarbot, Pulpo, Calamari, Oysters and Ceviche…. together with a tomato-burrata salad and of course, french fries!

Select your fish at the 'marketplace'. The crew can tell you exactly how it's being prepared.

So much to choose from! But the crew takes all the time to help you make the right decisions.

From the fish, you move on to the drinks. There again, someone can help you make the perfect choices to go with your meal.

The oysters were top-notch and all plates are beautifully decorated. Simplicity is key, the food draws the attention.

Even the tomato salad looks like a work of art, tasting even better!

Pesci offers a great dining experience in a trendy-cosy atmosphere. For a fish restaurant, the prices are very friendly. It is quite dark inside, so you want to go on a cloudy day or after you have made the most of the sun (we don’t get much of that in The Netherlands..). Or even better, get one of the few tables outside!
